- Meeting called to order at 6:25 PM. Meeting conducted at Johnson & Wales University Harbor View, 1150 Narragansett Blvd., Cranston, RI
- 13 People in attendance: Linda Musch, Gloria Cabral & Husband, Ken Watts, Dan Van Etten, Ray McCue, Rolando Robledo, Dick Wood, Fred Faria, Jeremy Andersen, Keri Anderson, Sara Lingwall and Don Mead
- Secretary’s report none
- Treasurer’s report: $6,000.00 in checking account, $10,000.00 to $12,000.00 in savings account and our investments are good.
- Old Business:
- Rolando acknowledged the ACFRI 2017 Christmas Party. 28 people attended, everyone had a great time. It was mentioned by Linda that more people would have attended if the party was announced earlier.
- The traditional Gingerbread Holiday Event at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital was replaced with a healthy concept, made to order parfaits for the children. There were several concerns related to making parfaits to order, logistically and food safety. Hospital does not allow non family members in patient’s room

- New Business:

- Chef Connect takes place in North Carolina February 25th through 27th.
- Volunteers needed as ACFRI partners with Rhode Island Hospitality in a fundraising event Thursday, February 15th, 7:00 am to 2:30 pm at the Omni Hotel and their National event April 27th through the 29th.
- The ACF Certification Practical Exam will be held April 21, 2018.
- Ken announced that “Consent Contact” program is up and running.
- Chef Throw Down will take place at the REvolving Door in Newport.
- Chef of the Year Dinner is hosted by Chef Jim of Gurney’s in Newport. Chef Rolando and Chef Ken will assist Chef Jim in planning and execution of the dinner.
- Golf Tournament is May 21st at Jamestown Country Club. Dan is still participating in organizing the event. RI Hospitality can assist with the tournament.
- John Rapoza is in the hospital
- Lisa from Hope & Main is rethinking the execution of the Lobster Boil / Crab Cake dinner to take place mid August. The thought of having assigned seating was discussed. Snap Chef and The Rhode Island Food Bank will provide volunteers. Linda stated that since our chapter is now a 501C3 Non-Profit organization, we should pursue partnering with the Hyatt Hotel in Newport to conduct fundraising events. As a chapter we need to increase our ratio of return from fundraising with a goal of achieving $10,000.00. Additional suggestions are, partnering with Whole Foods with their event to receive 1% of sales. Gloria suggested contacting Saint Vincent’s in Fall River to partner with their fundraising events. Ken stated that the Gemma Foundation is a large organization that we could suggest partnering with as well. Jeremy stated that he would research the possibility of hosting a fundraising event at the Naval War College in Newport. Ray stated that is imperative to maintain the financial viability of our chapter that we increase the number of fundraising events that we are involved with.
- BBQ Festival will be held in September or October, date TBD. Our chapter received $3,000.00 from last years BBQ Fest.
- As a chapter, a conscience effort must occur now to maintain and increase our donor and broker contacts to ensure product sourcing to continue our fundraising events.
