Presidents Message:
Wow, what a few nonstop weeks it has been. It got me to thinking about what it means to be a Chef today. The efforts to change classic kitchen culture and create a collaborative atmosphere. A place with the heart to be a true partner in the community and make a difference. Chefs do more than just create food. We are a strong group of friends that come together when called upon.
I want to personally thank everyone who helped us with The American Academy of Chefs 9th Lifetime Achievement Award Gala honoring George O’Palenick. What a night. I am sure the dinner will be one to talk about in years to come. I want to single out some special people. Thanks to the committee for organizing the dinner, silent auction and donations; Chefs Linda Musch, Gloria Cabral, Fred Faria Jack Chiaro and John Carressimo. I would also like to thank Chef Joseph Leonardi, Christina Harvey, Mark Soliday, Charles Armstrong and Mitch Stamm along with the rest of the Johnson & Wales University volunteers. Without these Chefs helping to prepare the menu it wouldn’t have been the success it was. And finally thanks Jill Cosgrove and the staff at the Crowne Plaza for all they did. Please check out the pictures in this issue.
Our November meeting at Federal hill Pizza, was a chance for us to get to Providence, Rhode Island and discover this hidden gem. The owners, Billy & Christine Manzo are truly fanatical about all things pizza. Artisan pizza makers tend to be birds of a feather: intensely passionate about their trade, their craft and their unique vision of superior pizza. It is a rarity to see them lead an entire movement and also be able to sustain and expand upon it.
Our December meeting will be our holiday party at Chelo’s in Warwick. It’s a platform for us to enjoy memorable moments of laughter together. It’s also another way to show our appreciation for chapter members. I look forward to connecting with you at an upcoming event. Don’t forget, tell us what you think and what you want to hear more about. I’m always a click away at rmccue@jwu.edu.
